Hi there,
This issue's step: the payday transfer
Log in to your bank and set up a recurring transfer of $25 (or whatever you won't miss) from checking to savings, for the day after payday. That's it. Five minutes, once.
Over a year of twice-monthly paychecks, $25 becomes $600 before interest, and you never had to decide to save it. More in Automate it so you don't have to think about it.
Find the money: the subscription sweep
Open your phone's subscriptions list and your last two card statements. Cancel one thing you forgot you were paying for, and send that amount to savings instead.
Reader question
"Should I keep my emergency fund in the stock market so it grows?" Generally no. Emergency money needs to be there in full when you need it, and markets can fall right when emergencies happen, like during a recession. An insured savings account keeps it safe. See Where to keep your emergency fund.
